Number two down! She was on day 147. We have two more we are anxiously waiting on that are on day 149 & 150. Cannot believe they are holding on that long! We have only had one doe I think over day 150. We are super excited for Built on the Rock Star Garnet kids. She is the only doe I was planning on retaining a buck from, and she definitely did that! Three boys and one girl. So far a repeat of last year - 5 boys to 2 girls. Hope this doesn't keep up like this. I think we had 16 "boys" to 3 girls in the end last year. Not good odds for sure. Or maybe it was 16 total with 3 girls - either way we are not wanting a repeat - hoping for some girls in the next batches.
It wasn't a very fun day though for anyone. She lost her ligaments but then really wasn't showing any signs of progressing into labor. We went and checked her at about 8pm and sure enough a kid was stuck in the birth canal in the wrong position. She was pulled and had to be stimulated for a long time but is doing great now! Then number two was in the same wrong position! He was a large buck (the one we are keeping). When trying to get him out, one of the other kids bubble burst so he was pulled also (polled moonspotted buckling for sale). Then we were thinking she had to be done but were trying to tie cords and such and out flew the last one. Only 1.5lbs!!! Smallest we ever had. He was limp and not breathing. Brent and Hannah took him and worked on him while I cleaned up the two boys and got everyone some colostrum. All the sudden I hear a scream in the milk room and they got the little guy breathing! What a miracle! He was so weak he couldn't even lift his head but Hannah fed him colostrum every 2 hours all night long and by the next day he could stand. He is doing so good running all over the house now. He is a little miracle boy! He is for sale as a pet (possibly pending) with another kid from either Rose or Mari if they every decide to release their kids.
Due to my health issues last year we didn't do alot of milk testing and Star Garnet was dried off early. I am expecting her to earn her stars this year (and her name even is "Star"). We bred her to Fox Acres PS Brecciated Jasper. His dam was a Top 10 Elite doe who milked 1530 lbs. His sire's dam earned her CH as an 11 yr old (black udder below - so milk and longevity)! We are expecting large milkers and well place teats from his offspring. His full sister has a super impressive FF udder also. We are retaining the doeling and the horned buckling. We are selliing the polled buckling and the wether pet - see below.
